Teenagers hanging around the fast food centres in the evening and children enjoying cricket matches or films with a packet of potato wafers or with the spicy food items are common sights, almost at every home and city .These food items not only allure the young ones, their parents are also seen accompanying them .These food items have become a part and parcel of our modern life.
The term 'junk food' is no more unknown to anybody , neither are its harmful effects on our health .But, we act as 'knowledgeable ignorants' in this respect as we can't resist our temptation to gorge on these food items .Junk foods are very easy to prepare and are tasty to owing to the lavish use of oils ,salt and sugar.Besides their alluring colours and taste ,the continuous advertisements of these food items also trap the children in this vicious food habit. The busy working mothers too seem to prefer these items for their own convenience.
The fat contents having high cholestrol value .the sugars and the sodium salts have adverse effects on kidneys and on the grey cells of the brain .'Hyperactivity'and 'Obesity'are the main diseases caused by junk food.
It is high time that we stop taking a casual approach towards this alarming problem. Parent's need to be more alert and active in there effort to prevent their children from these dreadful junk foods.
Parents should make the children aware of the dangers of fast food consumption, let them realise that there can be no substitute for the food prepared by mothers who add their affection along with the spices in the food.
Only parents can help their children in throwing away the food packets with artificial colours and flavours and coming back to traditional indian dishes which are both healthy and tasty |
